Visualizing (Global) Wealth Inequality

V

Why do I spend my free time trying to understand wealth inequality?

0.7% of the global population (a.k.a. 52 million people) own 50% of everything there is to own. The other 7.5 BILLION people split the other half.

8.5% of the global population (a.k.a. 600 million) own 85% of everything there is to own. The other 7 BILLION people split the other 15%.

70% of the global population (a.k.a. 5.2 BILLION) collectively own less than 3% of everything there is to own. And when it says (sub $10,000), remember that most of these people have a total wealth of under $1,000, and an annual income of no more than $1,000 too.

I fear one day those 5 billion will notice this disparity and do something about it. Given 8.5% of us have more than we need, it behooves us to make some systemic changes to make the system at least a bit fair and equitable to avoid that day of reckoning.
